iPhone 5S Full Review
The iPhone 5S is one of the first Smartphones out that has a built-in fingerprint sensor and a 64bit architecture chip, with this device being an Apple product the iPhone is also running IOS7 straight out of the box.
Apple is a company that is known for some amazing looking phones. The design of the iPhone is the same as the iPhone 5 but who’s saying thats a bad thing? The new iPhone has a sleek design and now made available in a few different colour options, when purchasing a iPhone 5S you will now be able to choose from Space grey, Gold and Silver.
Something that has changed is the home button, Apple have now added a ring, the same colour as your device, around the home button to allow the function of the Fingerprint scanner. Around the back you will also notice another change, the iPhone 5S now has a True Tone flash which flashes a amber tone for a more natural image. Now lets talk about that new Camera!
The iPhone 5S comes packed with a 8MP Sensor, It lists the sensor as 8 megapixel with 1.5µ pixels. It has ƒ/2.2 aperture and a True Tone flash which has two LEDs, one of which is amber. The front facing Camera takes 1.2Mp photos at a resolution of 1280×960, and offers 720p HD video recording.
The camera on the 5S is an amazing shooter in low light, the iPhone has something similarities to the HTC One Ultrapixel camera, the iPhone now will take low light images at the resolution of 8MP. The faster A7 processor means there’s a new 10fps burst mode which should ensure you don’t miss the crucial moment in the action.
The SlowMotion feature brings some fun to the camera, this feature is exclusive to the 5S only and will allow you to take slow motion video’s at 120fps, check out some of the footage in full video review.
Using the iPhone is a breeze, the iPhone 5S comes packed with a 64 Bit architecture Chip which allows iOS7 and other applications to run smoothly. iOS 7 and all the built-in apps are optimised for the A7 chip. The Camera app is a great example. It takes advantage of a new image signal processor built into A7 to give you up to 2x faster autofocus, faster photo capture, and higher video frame rates.
Apple have also added another processing chip into the iPhone 5S which is named the M7. The M7 coprocessor knows when you’re walking, running, or even driving and this will allow the M7 to reduce the network pinging to spare your battery. Phone calls are clear and we didn’t experience any call-dropping in our testing. Sound quality from the iPhone is same as the iPhone 5 with a few minor changes.
The iPhone 5 may be fast enough for some, but the 5s is significantly faster. In a few tests, the 5s performed more than three times better, while in others, it was closer to a 50 percent increase.
IOS7 is the preinstalled OS when it comes to the iPhone 5S. IOS7 bring some new features to the iPhone 5S and also a new fresh re-design. Apple have re-designed all the home icons and applications to a more of a flatter look, as well as the re-design the IOS7 brings some cool new features to the 5S as well.
The UI animations are beautiful, but it seems that Apple has been falling into the same trap as other companies it would be really nice to be able to disable the animations because they take time away from doing stuff. It doesn’t feel like much, but if each animation takes 0.2 or 0.3 seconds, think at how many times this happens in a day/week. It’s a simple option, so I hope that Apple will add it down the road.
iOS 7 introduces great new features like Control Centre, AirDrop for iOS and smarter multitasking. It also makes the things you do every day even easier, faster and more enjoyable. And while many of the apps look different, the way you do things feels perfectly familiar.
Touch iD is a new feature exclusively to the iPhone 5S. Underneath the home button lays a finger print sensor that works very well with the iPhone 5S. Touch ID basically allows you to scan in your finger print and unlock your device and purchase content with a touch of your finger.
Touch ID works really well, however right now there is not a lot you can do with it apart from unlocking your phone and purchasing content from the App Store. With future firmware updates coming this issue will hopefully be fixed soon.
Using the Finger print scanner has been a convenient feature after moving back to an inventive home button, it takes more time and really feels out of the ordinary.
